With Taiwan born nomad Alex Zhang Hungtai aka Dirty Beaches’ 2011 album ‘Badlands’ it seems we have hit rock bottom in lo-fism. Deep&Edgy has called him Suicide-meets-Elvis, and that’s really spot on. His stripped down, distorted take on rockabilly and 502s music/fashion will anger sonic purists I’m sure, but bar the repetition on some tracks, there are some really compositions here. You’ve already heard 'Sweet 172 probably, so why not give a try to the crooner 'Lord knows best’ which really was the stand out track for me.
