Black ox orkestar

By creating original song-settings for Jewish folk ballads (which traditionally were sung a cappella), by writing and performing new, politically-charged Yiddish texts, and by borrowing freely from traditional and contemporary musical sources, Yiddish and otherwise, Black Ox Orkestar hopes to challenge the artistic and political orthodoxies that would try to define the meaning of Ĭnew Jewish music.

Well I wouldn't have said it better so I didn't try. Black Ox Orkestar is from Montreal and features Thierry Amar from GSYBE and Silver Mt. Zion on contrabass and also Jessica Moss from SMZ on violin. Their second CD Nisht Azoy is out on Constellation Records.
