Summer Soul P2 : Flying Lotus
Continuing our soulful hiphop tour, renowned beatdigger Steve Ellison aka Flying Lotus is soon to have his sophomore album “Los Angeles” out on UK’s Warp. His debut “1983″ on Carlos Nino’s (Ammoncontact / Build an Ark) Plug Research was very well received and so was his “Reset EP” on Warp, which is pure gold!.

15 Battles – Mirrored (Warp Records) : Everybody’s been talking about “Mirrored” this year, and they kind of deserve it for getting their oddtimed dissonant music to find strange acclaim from mainstream circles as well as mathheads.
14 Deejay OM – Reheated Naan and Curry (Galapagos4) : A fine hybrid of Indian samples mixed with beats. Somehow liked it much more than Madlib’s take. Past
Multiply (Herbert’s Hoedown Bump)
We’ve featured both Jamie and Herb here last year, and what better way to start of 2006 with this song. This song has Herbert written all over it. He’s the master of creating this minimal beat that involuntarily makes you swing, and although I agree Gonzales’ mix is just as nice, I think this version has given the song a new charm.
jamie lidell – what’s the use
well, his new album is really the new sensation!.. I had always known about him, but categorized him in the inaccessible technoish music folder in my head, (a la cristian vogel, marcin czubala .. dunno why). Last year everybody was talking about his hyper-live show, including Isolee (he was blown away by his live show), and now his new album Multiply is out.
