Sat Sapienti 5: Future of the Left
Our fave noise rock outfit from Wales is back with another top notch album, I’m sure most of you have watched the video but read the lyrics and watch it again. Album soon to be released.
Vivian Girls
Vivian Girls‘ 22-minute self titled debut is hot cake right now (or was a month or so ago you know I can’t keep up with the kids) and not because Pitchfork told us so. Ok, I gotta admit that I first read about them via pitchfork, yet unlike most of the stuff I read and never check I jumped on Vivian Girls because I love this microgenre.
Henry Grimes Trio
Legendary bassist Henry Grimes has a rerelease on ESP-Disk, of the one and only disc he has been a leader on named “The Call“.
Private School
Private School is not an electronica project but it’s a lo-fi hiphop trio with similar Powershovel aesthetic. Touches of 90’s triphop, raw and sparse beats, simple synth melodies and rapping on top!
Distile Records
A few weeks ago I’ve been contacted by Pierrick from Distile Records, an up and coming Paris/NY label focusing on instrumental/noise/math rock. Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog
Back to our usual programme, here’s a review I promised you before our holiday break, the new effort by Marc Ribot’s power trio Ceramic Dog, “Party Intellectuals” out on Pi Recordings.
Steel Mammoth
I’ve been listening to more and more rock these days because there’s a slew of creative stuff coming out on smaller labels. Take Steel Mammoth a band who describes themselves with the following passage : “A lonesome engine cries, howling in the cruel crüel night! Nuclear nightmare, atomic style! Shadow barbarians with lazer eyes, radiation village, the black fire burning bright!
Part 5 : 15 – 10
15 Battles – Mirrored (Warp Records) : Everybody’s been talking about “Mirrored” this year, and they kind of deserve it for getting their oddtimed dissonant music to find strange acclaim from mainstream circles as well as mathheads.
14 Deejay OM – Reheated Naan and Curry (Galapagos4) : A fine hybrid of Indian samples mixed with beats. Somehow liked it much more than Madlib’s take. Past
