With great sadness and awe I read about the demise of Max Roach while on vacation a few days ago on a national newspaper. It felt a bit awkward to read about his death on a mainstream newspaper, which never ever ever says a thing about jazz or writes obituaries of important international artists, just bullshit magazine stuff.
