Fugazi - Turkish Disco
Here’s a local friend who’s one of the most respected DJs of Istanbul, with an immense knowledge of early soul/funk/disco/house whatever, he’s played with most of the legendary DJs that surfaced in Istanbul and he’s gonna play before Coldcut this month. A few weeks ago I asked him to write some stuff, surprisingly he’s gone back to his punk roots and came up with a rare track.. Say hi to Baris K who might be with us once in a while. // mersenne out.
Fugazi was probably at the first place for any smart ass like me in his or her teenagehood. Sharing the same place with Minor Threat, Bad Religion, Sebadoh etc. of course. The word “Fugazi” still reminds me of the days that we still believe that we could make a change in the world. An attitude against what we all become addicted to now, social narcotics that’s been injected to our minds. Still, no hope? Here’s one delight to refresh our minds. A track from the soundtrack “Instrument“, for the documentary about Fugazi directed by Jem Cohen. An unreleased piece in albums, dedicated to…. , hah:)
(On a lighter note, Fugazi’s name comes from the G.I. acronym, Fucked Up, Got Ambushed, Zipped In.// Thanks to the List of Band Name Etymologies on wikipedia // mersenne)
