Xploding Plastix
Last time we checked Xploding Plastix their music was a crossbreed of nujazz/downtempo and electronic music. That I guess was their excellent 2001 album “Amateur Girlfriends Go Proskirt Agents“. After 7 years, a trip to a major label, collaborating with the likes of Kronos Quartet, the Norwegians are back.
Les Fragments de Nuit
Led by French musicians Michel Villar and Ombeline Chardes, Les Fragments de la Nuit is a five piece neoclassical chamber orchestra which composes film scores for people who live like its Halloween all the time.
Jacaszek
Polish artist Michael Jacaszek makes cinematic electroacoustic music. It is sad and totally b&w as if watching a post-WWII movie set among the ruins of war. Yet beautiful string arrangements from violinist Stefan Wesolowski and cellist Ania Smiszek-Wesolowska alongside Maja Sieminska’s choral work add an ethereal mystical beauty to the gloomy clickbeats.
Waldeck – Ballroom Stories
One of Austria’s finest nujazz/downtempo artists and a member of the original Vienna sound alongside Kruder & Dorfmeister. Klaus Waldeck has released a new album after 2001’s The Night Garden. The opener track “Make my day” was released last year as a single and was drafted for a Mercedes ad, so it might be familiar to you.
Summer Styles 2
Here’s Part 2 of our deep house selection for summer, including the funk induced dancer by Move D on Compost, as opposed to his usual minimalistic style, Marvin Belton’s deep summer tune from 2005, which is a appropriately titled an Early AM Mix and more.
A Hawk and a Hacksaw & Beirut
A Hawk and a Hacksaw, definitely a charming name, very suitable to the Balkan tradition/lifestyle. Neutral Milk Hotel’s percussionist Jeremy Barnes composes, plays the drums and accordions and this time he’s teamed up with violinist Heather Trost and the brass players of the famed Fanfare Ciocarlia (which we featured here before.) from Romania.
Final Fantasy : He poos clouds
Here’s Final Fantasy, Mr. Owen Pallett’s solo outfit. After a little bit of search I found out that Pallett is a part of Picastro along with other bands like Internet and King Tut and also string arranger for the Arcade Fire. wow?
Andrew Pekler – Strings and Feedback
Andrew Pekler’s latest offering on Staubgold is a 10 piece album that doesn’t sound like his previous stuff on ~Scape.
