Back home after a short trip, here’s the folky selection we promised but couldn’t deliver on Friday. New stuff from Akron/Family’s Set ‘em Wild, Set ‘em Free, Boduf Songs new EP on Under the Spire, Fire on Fire’s The Orchard (Young God) and DM Stith introduced to us by Simone of Discoballbreaker. Kind of a male Joanna Newsom.

The idea of progress has been slowly dying. No one wants to live in the future. No finds the Future attractive any longer. The only thing left to believe in is collapse. That’s not boring! The end of civilization would be terribly exciting, and unlike any future we could imagine, probably more likely. We all are collapsitarians these days.

Had a stroll through last.fm yesterday, the recommendation engine has really been perfected. You can turn on an artist radio and listen to highly relevant music for a long time (changed channels frequently so I don’t know for how long). * Pjusk – Sart (12K): Barren drony soundscapes from Norway by the duo of Jostein Dahl Gjelsvik and Rune Sagevik.

* Fabchannel.com is a videosharing site for high quality full concert videos, including artists like Oxbow, Do Make Say Think, You say party! we say die!, Isis, Forro in the Dark, Bebel Gilberto, Comets on Fire, Spank Rock, Oi va Voi, Boris, Benni Hemm Hemm and about a hundred or so more!

Own Records from Luxembourg (whom we mentioned here before), home to acts like Bexar Bexar, Uzi & Ari and Gregor Samsa humbled us with an elegantly designed double CD of a new project by Portland based Aaron Gerber.
