A stream of brilliant naturalist instrumental psych jams from Denver’s Woodsman are up for grabs. Titled Indoor Days, this 6 track EP is a teaser for their upcoming album Collages on Mexican Summer. Although there are hints of post-rock here, the remarkable thing here is there’s not a bit of the overt sentimentalism of post-rock that I’ve grown to hate : i.e huge buildups, melodies & that overused electronic ambience. Instead there’s a stream of absorbing psych guitar sound + sparse percussion, well done!

Been postponing Dead Canary’s ‘bent blues’ duo Bassholes for a while. Comprised of singer/guitarist Don Howland and drummer Lamont “Bim” Thomas, the two-piece was founded in 1992. Their latest “…and without a name” on Colombus Discount is a premium blend of skronky, noisy garage blues with the right amount of fuzz, delay and harmonica .

The cult sci-fi surf outfit Man or Astro-man?, the band which molded our psyches with the b-movie, OTR, sci-fi, surf aesthetic while we still were youngins, are reunited. Here’s a video from their gig at Whirlyball, and if that wasn’t enough tease, Southern Shelter has the mp3s to the whole show. Didn’t play some of the oldschool favourites but oh well, who’s to argue.

The monsters which Montreal has unleashed upon the world, King Khan and partner in crime Mark Sultan (BBQ)’s touring Europe right now. Their Invisible Girl album was one of the best last year, but I was stupid enough to miss it back then.

We met years ago when we were teens. I knew Khan and his pals (cum Spaceshits members) by going to various LSD parties and punk shows. I think they knew me from a ‘punk’ band I played drums for, whose violent shows used to baffle them. Back then, I lived in a room (a dead-end hallway) in Khan’s apartment when I wasn’t homeless. He went to University. I worked at Cargo Records. We were fuck ups. Not much has changed. He has a great family now. I live in squalor and I love it. Austinist

Mark Sultan provides vocals, guitar, tambourine, bass and snare drum for the duo, while King Khan, provides guitar and vocals. Everything from fuzzy garage rock to punk and doo-wop is thrown in with a fury that equals a 10 piece orchestra. Amazing!

Robert Wyatt’s US of A was drafted for the next radioshow, which I prepared today. Didn’t fit in the general mood but it was pretty touching for this particular day, because of shit weather and big hangover. So here it is. Off 1985’s Old Rottenhat.

Very excited about meeting and hosting one of the primary movers and shakers in Budapest, DJ Suhaid tomorrow at our dig Mini Müzikhol. He was visiting Istanbul and thanks to our friend Ahmet Güneş, he’ll be performing a special set tomorrow. His latest sets have been the soundtrack to today and I thought I’d pass it to you guys who will not be able to enjoy him DJing tomorrow. Amazing 70’s Magyar Funk & Soul, laced with rock & beat; he’s Budapest’s answer to our own Baris K.. A member of the local fleamarket commando called Budapest BrakeCsokkerz with Kanada Kaosz, Haze and DJ Shuriken, the crew collect and play old 45s like there’s no tomorrow. I bet you’ll love it. Sometimes it’s our turn to get lucky!

Been rockin’ out to these two crunchy carefree songs for some time, thought I should share. This is by far the best ever stuff I heard from Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno. Read an interview with her on Pop Sense.

Sorry for the lack of updates, we’re super busy with our first live gig at Mini Muzikhol which will be taking place in about 5 hours. Gokcen Kaynatan is a pioneer of Turkish music. Born in 1939, he’s spend 60’s forming Anatolian Rock/Pop orchestras, making surf/punk music when it wasn’t fashionable (it still isn’t). In the 70’s he’s moved on and started making electronic music using moog/EMS synths. He hasn’t been performing for ages but he will grace our small venue with new found blood. Supporting act will be Rumblefish, the best known band in Istanbul’s surf/rockabilly scenes. The rest of the night will be taken care of by our own Grup Ses.
