Margins
Finally, some decent instrumental rock that doesn’t go the way of creating bland, hypersentimental electronically enhanced post-rock. We were truly bored out of our asses with that stuff and it was starting to feel like that time when everyone in your highschool was trying to become a poet.
Mailbox June : Indie
Digging through our mailbox with the indie / pop / rock selection, with Signal Hill, Cast Spells, Giant Hand, Abernethy, Bombadil.
Masha Qrella
Contriva frontwoman Masha Qrella has been a fave since “Don’t stop the dance” graced our ears more than 2 years ago. Haven’t heard much from her in the meantime, so imagine the joy of listening to Speak Low, 11 songs of recontextualized / covered music from Kurt Weill and Frederick Loewe two highly respected Broadway composers.
Math Love
Inspired by Sputnikmusic’s Math Rock Genre report I’ve selected a few math/instrumental rock tracks both old and new. Adebisi Shank, DD/MM/YYYY, The Dragon Rapide (RIP), Cheval de Frise, Mudy on the Sakuban
Brakes
When Brakes’ third album Touchdown fell on my lap, I had no previous idea about Brakes’ past glories and their first two albums. Here’s a quick recap, band members have previously played in Electric Soft Parade, British Sea Power and The Pipettes and their debut album in 2005 was released by Rough Trade to critical acclaim.
Barış K.’s Labour Day Mix
To show our solidarity with all of the oppressed of the world, our friend Barış K. has made a special Labour Day Mix. His selection unearths mostly political and mostly forgotten (thanks to constant military interventions) songs from the 60-80s Turkish repertoire, gems from Cem Karaca, Selda, Derdiyoklar, Aşık Mahzuni and others you won’t be able to listen anywhere else. Enjoy!

Shoogazers
One of the emergent trends for contemporary music this year, – if we can get a glimpse while actually living inside it- is the apparent comeback of shoegazing aesthetic in indie music circles. Two artists today, Paneye and Vadadi both free download albums fusing shoegaze with other elements.
