Women
Isn’t it amazing that it’s year 2008, and there are still some simple names to claim, such as this Canadian indie pop quartet named Women. Their self titled on Chad VanGaalen’s Flemish Eye Recordings is a 30 min (is this a new trend thanks to our shortening attention spans?) trip through psychedelia and jangling post-punk [...]
Dungen
Swedish psychedelic combo Dungen is back with a new one on Subliminal Sounds. Their 4th album aptly titled “4” is an extremely well crafted album of eclectic influences such as psychedelic pop, 60s soul, swedish folk, acid jam rock and jazz.
The ingredients might sound a little awkward. Swedish folk, jam rock and soul? [...]
The Mabuses
Similar to its elusive namesake, The Mabuses has been an overlooked gem and never made big. While Kim Fahy and Co’s career spans almost two decades with various projects, they’ve been very selective and released only two albums, both critically acclaimed.
Netlabel : 12 Records
Another standard bearing netlabel is 12 Records. Specializing in ambient and folktronica they’re close to achieving the milestone 50th release. On No. 46 they have the Austrian David Schweighart and on No. 47 they have Muhr whose Miasmah release is still doing chores on my playlists. Here’s what the label has to say about both [...]
March netlabel releases
I’ve been neglecting the netlabel scene for some time and release news have been filling my mailbox. I don’t think I’ll be able to check most out, but I never fail to check my fave netlabel WM Recordings!. Here’s some newcomers from WM and a few other pointers.
Thiaz Itch - Trodjeu Hi Hi [...]
Miho Hatori
A fantastic new album on Rykodisc is upon us, and the creator is no other than the Ex-Cibo Matto lead singer Miha Hatori.Cibo Matto was described as “They are like bluebirds collecting random bits of twigs, string and gummy worms to build a magnificent nest from which to sing their beautiful songs.” on an interview [...]
What the mailbox brought in 2
During the time I was away in Frankfurt I didn’t have the time to check out the songs sent by bands & labels. Today I checked through them and most of them are quite cool. Thanks to some attentive PRs we never get sent the mainstream r&b or stuff like that. Most of the stuff [...]
