Sat Sapienti 6 : Big Business
God, these lyrics by the stoner rock duo-turned-trio Big Business are great, even though I don’t really get what he’s ranting about.
Tuna Laguna
Hunted from last years, The Silent Ballet’s end of year list, Tuna Laguna is one instrumental rock band from Norway that didn’t garner much attention from music press and blogs. Not surprising as well all know the music press tends to ignore bands that make solid music without bells & whistles or scene buzz.
AGF, Douglas Lee, Aficionado
We’re already fans of the German spoken word / electronica artist Antye Greie Fuchs aka AGF. I thnik I’ve already mentioned her collabs with Vladislav Delay and Zavoloka. She’s released a new album on her own label in February, composed of her own voice and electronic transformations.
Steel Mammoth
I’ve been listening to more and more rock these days because there’s a slew of creative stuff coming out on smaller labels. Take Steel Mammoth a band who describes themselves with the following passage : “A lonesome engine cries, howling in the cruel crüel night! Nuclear nightmare, atomic style! Shadow barbarians with lazer eyes, radiation village, the black fire burning bright!

Part 5 : 15 – 10
15 Battles – Mirrored (Warp Records) : Everybody’s been talking about “Mirrored” this year, and they kind of deserve it for getting their oddtimed dissonant music to find strange acclaim from mainstream circles as well as mathheads.
14 Deejay OM – Reheated Naan and Curry (Galapagos4) : A fine hybrid of Indian samples mixed with beats. Somehow liked it much more than Madlib’s take. Past
Made In Sweden – Snakes In A Hole
Founded in ‘67, Made In Sweden trio was probably the first prog-rock band in Sweden and also one of the pioneering prog bands throughout the world, since prog-scene wasn’t so heavy until around 1970. This album has a different sound than other hard-core prog bands, being very jazzy & bluesy while also being progressive and it had been out of print for decades.
Prog & Psych Sweetness from ’70s
We’re living in this silly little modern world, where indie is the new pop, folk is the new black and prog is the new alternative. The fact for instance, that an old song by Mogollar (Les Moguls) is the official Playstation 3 ad shows how people are returning to roots more and more each day.
