Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble
The doom/dark jazz concept continues to be a fascinating marriage of jazz and drone music. Ultra slow movements create solemn moments of stillness, time almost in a standstill. The German quartet Bohren & Der Club of Gore seem the masters of this, however there are other orchestras who are playing with the concept and one of them is The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble.
Balmorhea : All is Wild
Austin, Texas’ natives Balmorhea will be releasing a new album right after last year’s highly successful Rivers Arms. Balmorhea’s emotive soundscapes would appeal to the fans of Max Richter and Goldmund (labelmates on Western Vinyl), who want more layers and energy to their music while retaining the tender side of their colleagues.
Grails – Doomsdayer’s Holiday
One of the most frequented bands here on undomondo is Portland rockers Grails. Somehow they manage to more than one release each year and we feel like you wanna hear all about them, because they deserve it.
Manufactur
Rock music is converging more and more into jazz & electronic music, with unconventional compositions & song structures and thank God MTV has not delved into this territory yet. Manufactur is a Swiss 4 piece that wrestles formulaic music with their own homebrew jazzy math-rock.

Downtempo / Folk compilation
I mentioned the Finnish folk/nujazz band Korpi Ensemble on yesterday’s radioshow review, yet just to show you how much I love this song, I featured it once again, so make sure you listen to it. Vocalist Johanna Iivanainen’s singing is very emotional, but of the inspirational and lively kind rather than the melancholic.
Indie Saturday
Taking it’s name from the Chinese dragon of the same name in the Marvel Universe, Fin Fang Foom is an instrumental/math-rock band from the US. This tune’s off their Native Tongue EP on stiffslack with lovely cello parts.
