South Carolina (just the place that we all wanna be) native Chaz Bundick aka Toro y Moi has recently signed to Carpark and will be releasing two albums, the first one Causers of will be out for your consideration in February 2010. His the beat driven approach might be the missing link between Washed Out and Bibio.

Can’t say I got into Fool’s Gold instantly although their genre is kind of upfront. Perhaps it’s because they are hipsters from LA and they sing in Hebrew?. Anyway repeat tries were kind of successful and I just found out Surprise Hotel is free download on last.fm, so you are free to form your own ideas about ‘em.

The Swedes know their thing when it comes to making electro pop (or melodic death metal, for that matter). The first single of Little Dragon’s sophomore release Machine Dreams. I heard they’ll be in Istanbul soon.

Perhaps the “new sound of suburbia” is a bit far fetched, but Colin Kavanagh’s one man show The Council Flats of Kingsbury has managed to adapt bossanova to the electronic age, with hints of 50s suburbia innocence and 60s psychedelic pop brightness. Bright colors, chirping birds, swirling synths, acoustic guitar and an ear for sweet exotic melodies, this 35 minute journey is surprisingly compact and captivating. Don’t miss this out if you’re into folktronica, hauntology, Ghost Box, Moon Wiring Club etc. 3.5/5

RIP Soupy Sales. Another legendary figure we non-Americans started knowing right after his death.

On January 1, 1965, Soupy was a bit put out at having to work on a holiday. During the closing moments of his show, he encouraged the kids who were watching to sneak into Mommy and Daddy’s bedroom and take those little green pieces of paper from their purses and wallets with pictures of presidents (like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln) on them and mail them to their ol’ pal Soup. He concluded by giving out the TV station’s address and promising to send the kids a postcard from Puerto Rico in exchange. Sales considered his remarks just another tossed-off ad-lib, meant to make his crew laugh. What he didn’t count on was the outrage of the many parents who’d been watching. The station received so many angry phone calls that Soupy was put on a two week suspension. In reality, very few children had the wherewithal to copy down the station’s address, get a postage stamp and actually mail a dollar bill to Soupy. His “punishment” was more or less a gesture on the part of management to appease the parents who’d been appalled at the possible anarchy Soupy Sales had inspired among their children.
