The United States of Amnesia
Robert Wyatt’s US of A was drafted for the next radioshow, which I prepared today. Didn’t fit in the general mood but it was pretty touching for this particular day, because of shit weather and big hangover. So here it is. Off 1985’s Old Rottenhat.
Meth Teeth / Girls
The year 2009 will be written in music history as the year of lo-fi garage/noise rock. There are countless things that can be said on how this noise is a gimmick and why it’s revivalist bullshit, but I don’t want to be a buzzkiller, as the countless no talent hacks have already started to bore people. So I just have to sneak two bands before the doors are closed and summer’s over.
Crystal Antlers
Crystal Antlers’ Tentacles on Touch and Go is amazing. True, their name has hipsterism written all over and how many more “Crystal somethings” we can tolerate might be hot topic, but if you are into the new jangly, noisy, power pop/punk school coming frmo NY and LA, like No Age, Wavves, Vivian Girls, Cause-Co Motion et al, Crystal Antlers’ Tentacles is a must have from 2009.
A Caged Lion
Let’s start off the week with a five song indie rock / folk selection:
+Bon Iver +Dame Satan +Day Sleeper +The Uncomfortables +Wavves
Cause Co-Motion!
Thanks to the interest on No Age and Vivian Girls this year our love with lo-fi rock/pop is rekindled.
Dungen
Swedish psychedelic combo Dungen is back with a new one on Subliminal Sounds. Their 4th album aptly titled “4” is an extremely well crafted album of eclectic influences such as psychedelic pop, 60s soul, swedish folk, acid jam rock and jazz. The ingredients might sound a little awkward. Swedish folk, jam rock and soul?
Foals
The band to get Battles’ most talked band award from last year is Oxford’s Foals. One of the most hyped and busy bands this year.
Mailbox cleanup
Today I found some time to check a good portion of them. Here are some that garnered my attention. Most are indie & folk. Wow, there must be thousands of indie bands right now. Hard to make a name for you in the indie scene nowadays, eh?
