The Souljazz Orchestra
Canadian afrobeat upcomers Souljazz Orchestra has a new offering on our favorites Strut, called Rising Sun. It’s safe to say that the orchestra hasn’t reached that fine point of diversity until Rising Sun which effectively marks them as a soulful afro/jazz combo.
The Soul Snatchers
Real soul music never dies is the mantra of Dutch funk/soul orchestra The Soul Snatchers, A successful member of the Social Beats roster. Led by Ton van der Kolk and Timothy van der Holst, the 6 piece has released their debut full length “Sniffin’ & Snatchin‘” in 2008 after a series of successful singles
Pierre Bastien
Bastien might be the world’s quirkiest tinkerer with an army of mechanic robots whirring and whizzing to create an authentic sonic scent. His newest work, a collection of pieces which he composed for filmmaker Karel Doing is released with the apt title “Visions of Doing” on Western Vinyl.
Les Fragments de Nuit
Led by French musicians Michel Villar and Ombeline Chardes, Les Fragments de la Nuit is a five piece neoclassical chamber orchestra which composes film scores for people who live like its Halloween all the time.
Nomo – Ghost Rock
I’m a huge fan of Michigan’s Nomo, No.7 on my last.fm after a total of ~110K listens, which means something. I’ve been listening to their new one Ghost Rock for a month or so and it’s simply another amazing album under their belt. I first heard the term Post Fela Afrobeat while reading reviews of their previous album “New Tones” on the net.
Tuna Laguna
Hunted from last years, The Silent Ballet’s end of year list, Tuna Laguna is one instrumental rock band from Norway that didn’t garner much attention from music press and blogs. Not surprising as well all know the music press tends to ignore bands that make solid music without bells & whistles or scene buzz.
Undomondo Radio Show #59
Another journey through exotica filled skies by error101, the red baroness of dusty cabinets, old gems, vintage jazz, saudade and then straight into some latin party mood, not the cheesy latin party with the chicks from the latin dance class though! A real latin party in heaven with El Rey.
Señor Coconut “Around the World”
Blog favourite German from Chile, Señor Coconut aka Uwe Schmidt and his orchestra has the latest installment to their series of latin pop covers.
