The Art of Funerary Violin
Another strange piece of work in tune with the Ghost Box aesthetics of being half-remembered/half-there is by the “The Guild of Funerary Violinists“. The guild founded in 1586 has protected these obscure classical solo violin pieces dating back from the late 17th to the early 20th century.
The Dragons
Let’s start this day with a lovely nugget by Ninja Tune released last year by the obscure USA band The Dragons. Properly released after 37 years of initial conception, “BFI” is a psychedelic surf band from the 60’s with more soul than surf guitar. Composed of 3 Malibu, LA surfer brothers this little gem couldn’t surface during their own time.
Mort Garson
The saying “No job too silly to take seriously” being his motto, Mort Garson wrote many things that would make a normal person shake his/her head and say “get a life, man.” He wrote “The Wozard of Id”, a psychedelic satire with environmental sound effects and Nancy Sinatra (credited as “Suzy Jane Hokum”) as Dorothy.

Jeff Recordings – Crippled Dick Hot Wax
Today i have two special world music songs from a rare and unique compilation on the CDHW label. Both of these songs have been engineered by Gerhard “Jeff” Nieckau, a German sound-engineer, who, in order to explore new music during the 70s set out on a journey to Peru and Trinidad & Tobago, and is also known to be the engineer behind Bossa 70 from Peru.
