lo-fi
Julian Lynch
We overlooked the debut of Julian Lynch, the joint ruler of the New Jersey hazeadelics scene (with Matt Mondanile of Ducktails & Real Estate fame) in 2009. Not unlike the previous “Garden is Adventure EP”, “Orange you Glad” is a unique mixture of hazy memories, childhood nostalgia and dreamy cinematics.
Undomondo Radio Show #84
#84 : Heady electronica treatise from Mr. Can Ayverdi; this is a mellow & hazy one bordering on glo-fi time to time. A dreamy summer set BUT it might go down as breakfast muzak on a winter day as well.
Ruby go home!
I know I’m completely slacking on the 2010’s, but can’t stop listening to Thee Oh Sees. Head of State jolts me into a confusing cinematic sequence.
Waaga Records
Lo-fi kingpins Lefse Records have a new and equally amazing outlet called Waaga Records. In the spirit of 2010’s Waaga offers us a 15 song free download compilation, that starts with an amazing lazy psychedelic jam MING MING DANCE COMPANY and ends with glitcy IDM scapes by Seams. Impressive.
Best Coast / The Mantles
Been rockin’ out to these two crunchy carefree songs for some time, thought I should share. Best Coast and San Fran’s The Mantles who recently released on Slumberland. Lo-fi fuzzed out garage rock/power pop.
Kuupuu Live in Istanbul tonight
Stupid scientists still haven’t invited the teleporter, and thanks to that I will be missing Jonna Karanka aka the Finnish forest psychfolk/experimentation amazer Kuupuu tonight. Still, spent most of the day listening to her new LP on Time-Lag Records which, if my memory serves me right, is more coherent and refined than her previous efforts.
Barzin : It’s Come To This
Canadian songwriter Barzin crafts melancholic folk songs for the suicide lane. Today though I received an email from Bad Panda announcing that they have gotten a previously unreleased Barzin song and released it with CC license, now I’m sitting in my depression cardigan, drinking red wine and contemplating why it has come to this…
BEKO DSL
Reno of BEKO Digital Single Label informed us a few months ago about their brilliant netlabel, but we’ve been slow to feature it. If you’re into shoegaze, psychedelic, twee pop, lo-fi noise pop etc. don’t sleep on them. BEKO releases a 2 piece single every Monday for free.
