LA
Fool’s Gold
Can’t say I got into Fool’s Gold instantly although their genre is kind of upfront. Perhaps it’s because they are hipsters from LA and they sing in Hebrew?. Anyway repeat tries were kind of successful and I just found out Surprise Hotel is free download on last.fm, so you are free to form your own ideas about ‘em.
Shlohmo
19-years old Shlohmo delivers the soundtrack for the LA aftershow party. His tracks swarm from dirty textures, strange sounds and obscured samples. It’s not Hip Hop what you hear, but the echoes are clearly there: under the blanket the beats are alive and kicking.
No Age : Scala, London
The Line of Best Fit has a live review of LA lo-fi punk duo No Age. That is a good reason to share one from their latest release Losing Feeling. One of the few bands who manages to justify most if not all of their hype. Simple and effective.
Breakestra
Been sittin’ on this one for so long, too long actually. Los Angeles’ soul orchestra Breakestra is soon to release their 2nd full length From Dusk Till Dawn on our favourite groove provider Strut.
Five Star Monday 9
Here are some of the highlights in the key of lo-fi punk from Not Not Fun all star band Vibes, Ganglians, SF’s Brilliant Colors and also stoner rock band Eternal Tapestry and Ducktails’ Matt Mondanile’s indie rock band Real Estate.
Ras G
One of the deservedly hottest things in music right now is hands down Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint. If you’ve been sleeping under a rock, Flying Lotus and colleagues have been feeding us nuschool instrumental beats which owe much to electronic music as much as everything hip-hop generally gets inspired off.
Crystal Antlers
Crystal Antlers’ Tentacles on Touch and Go is amazing. True, their name has hipsterism written all over and how many more “Crystal somethings” we can tolerate might be hot topic, but if you are into the new jangly, noisy, power pop/punk school coming frmo NY and LA, like No Age, Wavves, Vivian Girls, Cause-Co Motion et al, Crystal Antlers’ Tentacles is a must have from 2009.
Dubstep Comet 2
My sixth sense (Google Analytics) told me that one of the most popular posts on undomondo this year has been the Dubstep Essentials one. Here’s a few more dubstep/grime, from Cotti, Untold, Ramadanman, Cult of the 13th Hour and 6blocc
