Masada : Medeski, Martin & Wood / SC3
For some reason I’ve skipped Xaphan from The 2nd Masada Songbook on Tzadik. I thought this year’s invincible Bar Kokhba Sextet release was the first one yet indeed Trey Spruance’s madmen Secret Chiefs 3 were the first to step up to that holy task of getting 16 bar sheets of music from John Zorn and crafting them into their own creations.
Undomondo Radio Show #24
For every balkan & klezmer fan out there, this one is specially for you. It’s not one of my best shows i must admit, but i’ve been trying to tone the musical variety down in these last shows, attempting to make more wholesome shows and i hope in time i’ll get better at it. It’s [...]
Kletka Red
a ‘video clip’ of Kletka Red, made from stuff filmed on the bands last tour. Mostly in Venice.
Do you like Klezmer music? Are you also a fan of high intensity in your face speed punk metal? Then this album is for you. Kletka Red’s “Hijacking” came out in 1996 on John Zorn’s Tzadik label. It’s [...]
The Cracow Klezmer Band
Here comes the alleged Tzadik fanboy with a new and unfortunately the final release from The Cracow Klezmer Band. “Remembrance” released on Tzadik in March is a final testimony to the band with a terrific 2005 performance in Warsaw at the Polish National Radio concert studio. One thing the Eastern Europeans & Russians do is [...]
Retroethnic Sunday!
Yes retroethnic!. A word I made up 5 minutes ago to describe today’s songs. The first song is by Tofig Guliyev, and it’s off the compilation, Jazz in Azerbaijan Anthology. I’m disappointed with the second CD of this compilation, which has lots of newage/midi drum stale jazz, but the first CD has this gem by 1917 born composer Guliyev which has a ripping guitar played like a tar on top of a 20s style big brass band joined by some accordeon and piano, very musical.
The Cracow Klezmer Band & Klezmeyers
I don’t want to get politic over music, but I do not like war, and I really hate this nationalistic tendency that’s picking up speed again over the world. No kind of racism, nationalism and war is good and excuseable, the only solution should be immediate communication and tolerance against every race, idea, gender, etc. [...]
Koby Israelite
I know I sound like a Tzadik fanboy sometimes because half of the shit we feature on here is from Tzadik, but I really admire their constant output of noteworthy stuff. Koby Israelite’s new album on Tzadik’s Radical Jewish Series is a genre breaker. In his bio he mentions that he likes music that [...]
Yid Vicious - The Seventh Schlemiel
Hailing from Wisconsin, this funny klezmer band has a great name that instantly knocked me up. A band with this name would surely have a great attitude I thought not taking themselves too seriously at all. Boy was I right!. This is a great CD, especially if you have a previous notion of Balkan brass [...]
