UK producer Dom Stanton aka Domu announces that he has quit making music : “The point is that I am no longer Domu. He is a character, always has been, and as of Friday 13th November 2009, he no longer exists.”
Kaidi Tatham
UK’s master of jazzy chords and broken beats Kaidi Tatham sees his long awaited sophomore solo album “In search of Hope” released on the Japanese Freedom School label. Kaidi is a prolific producer famed for being a member of the renowned Bugz in the Attic collective, one half of Modaji and 2000 Black among other outfits.
Summer Soul Intro P1: Eric Lau
This week we’ll be covering all the neosoul/jazzy hiphop stuff coming out mostly from the UK and of course the US (Stones Throw!) It’s def going to be the sound of this summer and might we say flutes are making a comeback!.
Atjazz
One of our favourite deep house producers, UK’s Martin Iveson aka Atjazz has a new one under his belt called Full Circle. As the Co-founder and head of Mantis Recordings (Rhythm Plate, Brooks) has been on the forefront of jazzy UK deep house for ages. Operating from Derby he’s been producing a steady supply of deep house beats mixed with electric soul stuff & downbeat.
This week in Istanbul
Sorry to fill the blog with this week in Istanbul posts recently, but I’ve got to mention the one and only Diesler Live Experience is in town. Diesler is the brainchild of Jonathan Radford previously on Tru-Thoughts one of my fave nujazz/hiphop/urban music labels from Brighton UK. This young Brit convinced us with his groovy brasil tinged music for the last few years.
Lukid
Londoner Lukid has made the perfect stay at home at hot weather music for people who are stoned and only able to headbop. There’s all kind of deep, jazzy influences, dusty beats & textures and cut-up samples galore. Almost everything I look for in electronic music that’s bordering on hiphop. If you were into Jan Jelinek’s “Loop Finding Jazz Records (which is one of the alltime best electronic albums) or Prefuse 73 stuff you’ll be loving “On and On”.
Dirty Diggers
I’m not really knowledgeable about nuschool UK hiphop (or oldschool for that matter) but I’ve listened to a few artists like Braintax and I know that UK hiphop is down to earth and fun unlike the USA gangsta rap which only talks about killing people and showing the world how rich and cool they are.
