Podcasts and mixes from Tru Thoughts, Diesler, Paul White & Bullion, Radio Scotvoid and Zombie Disco Squad.
Mixes week 11
We’ve got five mixes/podcasts today, newschool beats from LA’s Low End Theory Club, a late night jazz & ambient mix from Low Light Mixes, urban dance music from ARGO, drone/ambient mix by Sweden’s Ljud and Illum Sphere’s Hoya:Hoya 2.
Astronauts of Antiquity
Astronauts of Antiquity’s Rocket Science for Dummies is a solid downtempo/pop/jazz album with inspired songwriting, mellow vibes and good musicianship. Think of Morcheeba’s first 2-3 albums or Zero 7’s debut, Lamb or Thievery Corporation and you’ll be prepared for what the Astronauts are gonna bring to the table.
Musetta
Musetta’s new album titled “Mice to Meet You!” is out on the fabulous Irma Records who’s single handedly shaped the Italian lounge scene for decades. Seductive jazz noir vocals from Marinella and nu-jazzish beats from Matteo make this a versatile album covering genres like downtempo/triphop/lounge and deep house.
Undomondo Radio Show #30
Another milestone show, #30! Feels like we’ve been doing Undomondo forever, when it’s barely 30 (it’s already 35 btw, you know I’m slow to keep up with it online). Starts of folky with acts like Hala Strana & Golden Arm Trio, Early Songs, Luke Temple, Jens Lekman, amazing songs!
Vikter Duplaix
Philly soul boss Vikter Duplaix has released his second studio album Bold and Beautiful on UK’s Barely Breaking Even also home to Roy Ayers, Will I Am, Osunlade, J Dilla. He’s worked and studied with artists such as Teddy Pendergrass, the late Luciano Pavarotti, King Britt, Kenny Gamble, Jazzanova, Clara Hill and more and he’s also released for K7’s prestigious DJ Kicks.
Undomondo Radio Show #21
#21 is done by error101 but she hasn’t got the time to type anything up right now. It’s a mellow show like her previous ones, lots of downbeat & nujazz stuff, some jazzy hiphop, roots & afrobeat and jazz. Enjoy!
De-Phazz
I’ve started listening to downtempo & nujazz music around 98/99 after slowing down from listening to d’n'b all the time, that was an interesting era with acts like K&D, Tosca, Beanfield, Minus 8, Rainer Trüby, and German labels like Mole and Compost getting increasingly visible and G-Stoned establishing the Vienna nujazz Scene.
