One of the maturest albums of this year is by Death Ambient, I’ve checked this album a few times but couldn’t delve into it for some reason. A week or so ago I gave it another spin using headphones and I was freaking enchanted by it. Death Ambient is the laptop jazz supergroup composed of notorious experimenters Fred Frith, Ikue Mori.

First up is J. Rawls presenting Ohio MC Holmskillit, which has been my most repeated hiphop album this year. There’s some soulful & jazzy deep hiphop a la Madlib here.

You have to remember Andrew & Emiko’s rendition of the traditional Japanese song Otemoyan. Well guess what, I’ve found the lyrics and an instrumental 70’s sax version of it from the by Teruo Yoda, which has been on repeat since that day.

Most of the time, press text of albums are full of cliches and unneeded banter about the past accomplishments of the band with vague words and praise. Here I was today trying to write a short intro to A&E’s new album Oi! released on the avantelectronic label Sonig.

Moteer is a small electronica label from UK artists The Remote Viewer (see Moteer=Remote). I’ve heard their name before but didn’t have the means to check any of their artists. Now that Boomkat has put their catalogue online as MP3s we can all enjoy.

Here’s an artist I’ve meant to feature here for some time, we’ve already played the same song on our radioshow respectively with error101, and this is the only song that’s been played in 2 shows (now that’s some statistic !). Kama Aina which means “Islander” in Hawaiian is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Takuji Aoyagi from Japan.
