Summer Soul Intro P1: Eric Lau
This week we’ll be covering all the neosoul/jazzy hiphop stuff coming out mostly from the UK and of course the US (Stones Throw!) It’s def going to be the sound of this summer and might we say flutes are making a comeback!.
Lukid
Londoner Lukid has made the perfect stay at home at hot weather music for people who are stoned and only able to headbop. There’s all kind of deep, jazzy influences, dusty beats & textures and cut-up samples galore. Almost everything I look for in electronic music that’s bordering on hiphop. If you were into Jan Jelinek’s “Loop Finding Jazz Records (which is one of the alltime best electronic albums) or Prefuse 73 stuff you’ll be loving “On and On”.
Dirty Diggers
I’m not really knowledgeable about nuschool UK hiphop (or oldschool for that matter) but I’ve listened to a few artists like Braintax and I know that UK hiphop is down to earth and fun unlike the USA gangsta rap which only talks about killing people and showing the world how rich and cool they are.
Cassetteboy – Dead Horse & more
Don’t you just love the politically incorrect UK guerilla humour? Don’t you love the accent? I sure do, and I’ve laughed countless times listening to this tape Dead Horse, and their previous bootleg with DJ Rubbish – Inside a whale’s cock!.
