Barn Owl
You already know what to expect from Barn Owl if you’re familiar with labels like Not Not Fun, Root Strata or Foxglove : lots of fuzzy guitar processing, ritualistic slow doom, psychedelic folk and mournful drones shifting and evolving into complex soundscapes.
R.I.P Jack Rose
Pitchfork and others report that the enigmatic guitarist Jack Rose has passed away after a heart attack aged 38.
RIP Dani of Celer
I’ve tweeted about the loss of Celer’s Dani “Chubbs” Baquet-Long on Monday, but I couldn’t find some time to make a proper post because of the our vacation. This Southern California couple were very talented blissful drone/soundscape makers and all around artists into literature, poetry and philosophy etc. and they were quite prolific.
Németh, Fennesz, Edward Ka-Spel
A short selection for a gray day.
* Stefan Németh – Film (Thrill Jockey)
* Fennesz – Black Sea (Touch)
* Edward Ka-Spel – The Painted River of Regrets… CDR (Trademark of Quantity)
Erdem Helvacioglu
Fellow Turkish guitarist and composer Erdem Helvacioglu has released a full length on the prestigious contemporary music label New Albion. His 2003 release “A Walk through the Bazaar” on Locust Music was part of the Met Life Series which focuses on field recordings & soundscapes.
Rameses III
One of the albums I’ve been coming back to these nights is Rameses III’s Matanuska on Music Fellowship. After listening to music for some time during the day, I don’t want to hear any beats at night before sleep. However most of the drony/ambient music is either dark and noisy or too new age.
