funky
Soirée
Just received this one from Bear Funk. Soirée, labelowner Stevie Kotey’s new project with Max Essa is a real beast that fuses all the good bits from balearic house, disco, funk and anything soulful.
This LP crashes hard drives
Some amazing digs here and a melting pot of brassy/psych/funky beats but I’ve chosen the big band fury of Bada Que Bash and the amazing Indian beat of “I am very sorry” by Noor Jehan.
Undomondo Radio Show #68
Another joint show with Can Ayverdi/Cleansweep, you can realize the degree of soulfulness when you see the names Lee Hazlewood, Galt McDermot and Al Hirt in a row. There’s more to come though! Some of the highlights are brasiliera from Walter Wanderley and Charlie Rouse, more velvet soul from Bobby Womack and a cosmic ending with Build an Ark’s first effort.
Illa J : Yancey Boys
Some old Dilla beats off Delicious Vinyl boss Mike Ross’ archive has seen the light now with Dilla’s younger brother John aka Illa J rapping over them which resulted in “Yancey Boys“.
Shawn Lee & Clutchy Hopkins
Remember Clutchy Hopkins, the so called mysterious beat digger from Midwest?. Ubiquity has released an exciting new collabo between C.H and Britain’s exotic kookhead Shawn Lee.
Random 4 for today
First a soulful afrobeat on a funky beat from Cymande’s self titled 1982 album. Then a truly hypnotic track by the king of bearded disco DJ Harvey “Lovefinger” which I guess gives its name to the blog lovefingers.
Reedits
There’s a rising trend in dance music for the last few years, and it’s now safe to say disco is back, at least in Europe, and mostly thanks to re-edits. Of course the nu-disco scene in USA has been flowering for years, with the likes of Metro Area, Daniel Wang & Kelley Polar but re-edits of prog/kraut bands like Alan Parsons Project?
Summer Styles 2
Here’s Part 2 of our deep house selection for summer, including the funk induced dancer by Move D on Compost, as opposed to his usual minimalistic style, Marvin Belton’s deep summer tune from 2005, which is a appropriately titled an Early AM Mix and more.
