Piero Umiliani / Cinque Bambole
I first heard the great Italian soundtrack composer the late Piero Umiliani with the “Musicaelettronica” compilations featuring his proto-electronique synth music.
Waldeck – Ballroom Stories
One of Austria’s finest nujazz/downtempo artists and a member of the original Vienna sound alongside Kruder & Dorfmeister. Klaus Waldeck has released a new album after 2001’s The Night Garden. The opener track “Make my day” was released last year as a single and was drafted for a Mercedes ad, so it might be familiar to you.
2 Minimal Techno dancefloor burners
One might remember 2001’s as the peak for quality minimal music, one of the main actors for it was Playhouse/Ongaku/Klang under Roman Flügel’s guidance. A golden EP reminiscent of those days has been released on Klang by Radical Majik and boy is it good.
Hadouk Trio
Hadouk Trio is the brain child of Didier Malherbe and Loy Ehrlich with percussionist Steve Shehan. All three are multi instrumentalists, and the music sounds very rich and the instruments are warm, especially the Dodouk (from which the second part of the word Hadouk comes from) is ultra warm…
Luomo – Paper Tigers
Luomo’s long awaited third album is finally upon us on his own label Huume. His “Vocalcity” album and the unforgettable hit “Tessio” had established his status as an innovator in the house field, while he has also worked under countless aliases like Sistol, Uusitalo, Vladislav Delay and one half of AGF/Delay producing dub oriented electronica and experimental music.
Tunng
Now I know Tunng has been featured on many other mp3blogs however they deserve every bit of coverage on every media. We’ve all been obsessed with ‘Pool beneath the pond’ since our first listen!. I’m particularly struck with the medieval feeling, somewhere along Sopor Aeternus without the gothic feel.
Winter Fiesta
Mersenne, has told me that Sao Paris reminded him of Agf/Delay. That is true but without the cold European attitude. Not that i’m against Europeans, really, I am a big fan of Europeans but this takes “down” out of downtempo. Not unlike the Brasilian reference in the name, the soft flat tones are tinted with a certain warmth, which is what you get if you are a French electronic musician with a Brasilian vocalist.
