Eglantine Gouzy
After all these years, I know that the blogosphere doesn’t have an attention span of more than a few days so whatever you present should either be shit hot or totally vintage, effectively rendering albums from say, 2006 out of sight. Today we make an exception for Eglantine Gouzy a lesser known bedroom pop artist from Paris.
Trans Am
Thrill Jockey mammoth Trans Am has a new album out named “Sex Change”. Arguably one of the most prominent bands of the 90s alongside Tortoise and Labradford, their new album is interestingly radiofriendly somewhat opposed to their eclectic musical tastes. Frankly I’ve never been a huge fan of synth + rock, or new wave, or the arena electronic aesthetic of MTV’s pop acts, but this album caught me totally offguard.
Exchpoptrue
I had lost interest in the electroclash and electropop genre, right after the start of the glam and the glitz. However thanks to Exchpoptrue on Popcorn Lab, I’m now back into roboglam and I’m feeling younger now. The band feels very dynamic thanks to gritty italo disco basslines by Christian Bouyjou and what’s better than [...]
Otur
Here’s a surprise electronic downtempo album from Sweden, which went far beyond my expectations. Otur means sit down in Turkish, but I figured out that it means bad luck in Swedish.
22 years old Emma Bates from Malmoe, Sweden who was previously worked with Jens Lekman and lots more seems to be an active mover and [...]
Crash Course in Electro Part 2
Here’s the second part of the crash course with more electro pop and vocal stuff this time. You’re most likely to remember and own most of the songs in here, but how could i omit Sunglasses at Night or Frank Sinatra from this list. All of the songs have stood the test of time for [...]
Poni Hoax
I could swear that I heard a female voice on Budapest but Poni Hoax is a 5 piece all-men band from Paris. I’d listened to their hit song Budapest before and when they released their self titled album in July, I was curious about them because it was produced by Joakim and released on Tigersushi. [...]
Peaches - Impeach my Bush
photo from Eagles of Death Metal / Peaches live act on flickr.
Well, I thought I lost interest in Peaches after her great debut Teaches of Peaches. I even skipped her live show in Istanbul a few years back, because her second album Fatherfuckereff was a lackluster effort that used the same sexual & theatrical formula. [...]
Call me Poupée
What’s up with multiinstrumentalists these days? They’re under every stone, perhaps with the rise of electronics and internet, people are now better with playing more than one instrument. Perhaps it’s because of postmodernism and eclecticism people tend to check out & form different subcultures and fuse them with others. Anyways, I like eclectic music with [...]
New album from Senor Coconut!
If there’s one band I’m sure I’ll never be disappointed with, it’s Señor Coconut! Mr. Uwe Schmidt (aka a huge number of names including Atom Heart, Erik Satin, Lisa Carbon etc. in fact if I tried to sample one song from all his identites, I will bust my monthly bandwidth) and his orchestra of [...]
Kudu
“You might smell like vanilla, but you’re still a gorilla!” …
One of the best chorus hooks I’ve heard recently, thanks to Kudu on Ilhan Ersahin’s Nublu label. This is a raw electropopish dance track with Sylvia’s clever vocal line and lovely melody that carves itself instantly in your mind. This track is off their new [...]
