Making covers of well known stuff are almost always a good catch. However getting to do a cover album of the greatest electronic anthems ever straight on is a mammoth task. Simply for the fact that these are really the biggest electronic anthems ever and you don’t have the chance to go wrong.

The second compilation from Barcelona’s Lasal label formed after the beach & open-air bar of the same name (since 1993!) showcases a selection from high quality contemporary urban dance music that none of us with a sane mind can resist. A range of styles like urban soul, reggae, deep house, leftfield hiphop, broken beats, electronica are apparent.

Make space for Mr. Vonstroke’s debut CD “Beware of the Bird” on his own Dirtybird Records. I generally expect 2-3 good electronic dance albums per month these days and I was expecting a standard CD with 1-2 good tracks and lots of fillers, but oh how mistaken I was. I am sincerely in love with the album at the first listen. I admit there’s nothing new or revolutionary with this album, and there are some “wacky” tracks. But this guy’s really mastered the formula of dance music. It’s not rocket science, just music for a nice party with dancable beats, and some technoish hooks. While most of the big names are repeating themselves this gentleman has taken the sub bass of booty bass and mixed it with acid and electro in a way that would appeal both to the mainstream and the underground dancefloors.

Deep Throat” is his first hit with a lovely danceable melody and some chunky drums while “Who’s afraid of Detroit?” is a detroit techno take on with minimal drums and dark pads with again a catchy floating melody. Good debut!
