This is not a new release (well, what else would you expect from Uncle Dusty) but a nice addition to our favourite triumvirates nevertheless. 2003 album The Weather is an odd ball playground of children’s toys, educational records, household appliances, whistling solos combined with fast and furious leftfield emceeing, hard humour and well-crafted production. The instant i saw this album, i knew a trio like this could not go wrong. It combines three talents distinctive in their own ways, to produce an album of unique hip-hop based on each-other’s musical differences. It seems they have enjoyed a challenge in trying to work out a way to overcome these differences while exhibiting the best their talents have to offer and i think they have done a good job.

A good dosage of dada lyrics and abstract rapping by Radioinactive and Busdriver is storming on like:

from Exaggerated joy: “invite us and the conspiracy theorist and furry feminist to family diner with the grand wizard”

from Name Forgetter: “then there’s orange cones around my bed, cuz I be manufacturing dreams so you can put ‘em in your answering machine, and I sell them to people who get into fender-benders in bumper-to-bumper traffic”

“just another funny looking Mediterranean brother, as the head of an alien hovers”

Daedelus on the other hand, is having a field day with his fractured/retrospective taste in electronic music as always. One last note: If constant whistling makes an epileptic impact on you, maybe you shouldn’t try “Weather Locklear”…I’ve seen it happen…Not nice. Mikah 9 whom you can remember from Haiku D’tat is the one who whistles btw.
