New promo in our mailbox from the 5 piece urban soul & triphop band Si*Sé from NYC. The single from their upcoming Gold EP (out tomorrow) “This Love” gets the remix treatment from Hird, which eventually was the reason I checked it up. Surprisingly this breakbeaty house remix didn’t cut it for me as much as the “Motown-ish” vibes of the original.

This has been resting in my bookmark folder for a while. PinBoard informs us that one of our favourite jazzy beatmakers Eric Lau has a new EP called Kilawatt. The opener features the vocal talent of Muhsinah, Kaidi Tatham and Oddisee! Deep jazzy beats!

A few days ago our generous friend Ernest Gonzales from Exponential Music tipped us about their annual freebie compilation for SXSW. Rather than putting solely their own artists this time they’ve invited who’s who of the nu wave electronic beatmakers from labels such as Exponential, Ninja Tune, Stones Throw, Daly City, Creaked, Innovative Leisure, and Fake Four, incl. but not limited to The Heliotronics, Jahcoozi’s Robot Koch, James Pants, Sutekh, Deceptikon, Mochipet, Shlohmo and Ernest himself. Really excited about the Gonjasufi debut “A Sufi and a Killer” coming up 8th of March on Warp, in fact haven’t been this excited about an album for a long time, it tastes sweet.

Jonny Trunk is the man behind Trunk Records, home to the amazing Moon Wiring Club and in the general direction of the Ghost Box clique. He has also been the broadcaster of Resonance.fm’s OST for the past 6 years, which is a heaven for all diggers of soundtracks and library music.

His 2009 effort Scrapbook is totally my kind of music: short & to the point beats from all walks of life, left behind for dead, until the right time comes and they see the daylight via a Scrapbook. I could never do this to my pieces, because this shitty digital station brings more misery every year, as plugins are outdated and samples are lost. Jonny on the other hand is a man and not a sissy like me as he works with “An EMU E5000 Ultra that works some of the time, and old Beocenter 1800, Logic 4.7 on a rather unattractive Apple G3, a Yamaha P90 electric piano and a small Mackie mixer.”

But, I digress, this is a phenomenal record from one of Britain’s most talented and eclectic crate diggers. Amazing sample based cinematic soundscapes, lots of anglohumour and a beautiful mind. Essential if you’re into Shawn Lee, The Time & Space Machine and of course BBC Radiophonics.

After a year or so of laying low, we’re starting a new music venue in Cihangir, Istanbul with our usual partners-in-crime, soap-system and etrafta. Minimuzikhol will be operating from Wednesday to Saturday and will hopefully be a safe haven for versatile music, which is hard to come by in Istanbul.

We’ll be presenting some great acts from abroad as well as small live acts and local DJs who doesn’t play run-of-the-mill music. The place will be a cosy and casual place with fair prices and regular happy hours. It will be a friendly business, and not a PR & celebrity fueled monstrosity. We hope to stop the usual guestlist nepotism of Istanbul nightlife and get everyone to pay small fees for the music, please don’t bug us about the guestlist – there’s no guestlist. We start off this Friday with The Time & Space Machine of Tirk Records, London; a regular on undomondo.

Richard Norris, famed collector and producer, who’s been a part of The Grid with Dave Ball of Soft Cell in his early career, remixing the likes of Pet Shop Boys, Yello and Brian Eno, and dealing with acid house & balearic music. He is also one half of Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve with Erol Alkan, which sounds similar to his solo project The Time & Space Machine, a festivity of psychedelia & beats.

In partnership with Erol Alkan as Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve, Richard has firmly cemented his position in the Psyche-scape. Their series of re-edit 12” mini albums were not only instantly snapped up in stores but also led to a series of high profile remixes for artists such as Chemical Brothers, Goldfrapp, Franz Ferdinand and more.

He’ll be playing in minimüzikhol both Friday and Saturday. The venue is kind of small so make sure you arrive early. Previously on undomondo
