Bosphorus By Moonlight
Our friend Cenk Akyol has a new mixtape that spans historical Turkish art music and Romantic music from the 19th century (1881-1938) inspired by novelist Abdulhak Sinasi Hisar’s book Bosphorus by Moonlight.
Rothko
I’ve only been to London for a few times yet the “Rothko Room” in Tate Modern has a special place in my heart. Mark Rothko’s art is a mood changer one that invokes moments of silent contemplation. Accompanying music by UK ambient act of the same name which suits his work rather well!
Bad Painting – Good Art
MUMOK curators have created an official free download compilation to accompany the exhibition. I’ve sacrificed myself to stroll through the compilation which as you can anticipate has some abysmal music alongside some interesting ones. Here are my 3 picks, you can check the rest for yourself if you have the guts!
Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog
Back to our usual programme, here’s a review I promised you before our holiday break, the new effort by Marc Ribot’s power trio Ceramic Dog, “Party Intellectuals” out on Pi Recordings.
Erdem Helvacioglu
Fellow Turkish guitarist and composer Erdem Helvacioglu has released a full length on the prestigious contemporary music label New Albion. His 2003 release “A Walk through the Bazaar” on Locust Music was part of the Met Life Series which focuses on field recordings & soundscapes.
Takagi Masakatsu
Takagi Masakatsu is a Japanese music and video artist. His music combines very playful piano loops and other sounds with samples of nature and outdoor environments. Foot steps, children playing, and various other sounds are mixed into his tracks from samples he has gathered from all over the globe. His visual work is very creative as well.
Quickie..
No time for a real post today, so instead of us read these great publications and blogs. :) See you tomorrow!
Fedayi Pacha
Fedayi Pacha has been on my tracklist for a few months, but the time to post about him has just come. I first heard about him on a French dub compilation featuring him and Zenzile among others. Then I got his album Dub Works, out on Hammerbass a French Label. The music is what you would expect from his name.
