The Souljazz Orchestra
Canadian afrobeat upcomers Souljazz Orchestra has a new offering on our favorites Strut, called Rising Sun. It’s safe to say that the orchestra hasn’t reached that fine point of diversity until Rising Sun which effectively marks them as a soulful afro/jazz combo.
Bibi Tanga
Bassist and vocalist Bibi Tanga has recently formed a new band and is getting a lot of attention, thanks to his p-funky bass grooves and acid jazz vibes, with nods to Curtis Mayfield, Roy Ayers, and the afro-funk tradition of Keziah Jones. Don’t forget, this saturday at GHETTO!
Nadine (Ruckus Roboticus RMX)
ReMixmeister Ruckus Roboticus from Solid Steel Radio has a remix of Nadine by the Israeli afrobeat troupe Fool’s Gold. You can check the original by Fool’s Gold here and also don’t forget this previous remix by Ruckus Roboticus.
Fool’s Gold
Can’t say I got into Fool’s Gold instantly although their genre is kind of upfront. Perhaps it’s because they are hipsters from LA and they sing in Hebrew?. Anyway repeat tries were kind of successful and I just found out Surprise Hotel is free download on last.fm, so you are free to form your own ideas about ‘em.
Jimi Tenor & Tony Allen
2009’s hottest series is hands down Strut Records‘ Inspiration Information, which managed to provide not one but two top notch collaborations by mixing and matching legends with talents, first with the Mulatu Astatke and Heliocentrics bid, and now with Jimi Tenor and Tony Allen.
Felabrations / Diamond District
Just got a few minutes to share some promos that recently hit our inbox. Fela Kuti’s Felabrations, Diamond District’s official release of In the Ruff, and Aldo Vanucci’s Belleruche mashup..
Ofege : Nobody Fails
I think I found this on the always tasteful Club Cortez. Nobody Fails is a moody afro-psychedelia piece by Nigerian band Ofege. Off their Try and Love album which is available at Boomkat.
Bright Size Life
Bright and cheerful selection inspired by bright blue skies and white fluffy clouds. We have tracks from Christian Prommer, Nomo, Pat Metheny, Chaz Jankel and Horst Jankowski! Come inside!
