Only a fool would ruin Friday night by posting noise. That’s why I decided to postpone Nana April Jun for the time being and come up with something to spice up tonight. Apparently the new promos from our favourite nudisco providers Tirk and Bear Funk are the best in our arsenal right now.

Steve Kotey’s Kotey Extra Band and label stalwart Bottin gets to cook a “Hot Ring” inspired by the Riz Ortolani soundtrack for “The Girl In The Yellow Pyjamas”, which in the words of the label “bounce around like Pamela Anderson’s front end whilst running up and down Malibu beach”. Catch the remix treat by Fernando.

SF’s Sorcerer aka Dan Judd has a 12” called Chemise on Tirk with remixes by Max Essa and the mighty Time and Space Machine! The slo-mo disco action by Max Essa is great but you should also get the TSM remix which sounds cleaner and more percussive in respect to his former psychedelic masterpieces, yet still top notch.

Our friend Fuchs from Dinamo 103.8 has just unearthed a talent in the form of his uncle Erkut Şahinbaş. An architect who’s won the National Architectural Award of Turkish Architects twice, Erkut Şahinbaş is an avid jazz listener. His one hour mix with help from Fuchs himself is part one of a 2 part series, the next one “For Jammers” to follow next week. This one is “For Lovers”!

Well Nowruz is coming and what better way to celebrate than this Alevi-Sufi piece. Yesterday found this video of the late Turkish baglama master Ali Ekber Cicek performing his most famous piece “Haydar Haydar“. A friend reblogged our tumblr saying “I don’t know who this is or what he’s singing but the brother can play!”.

Ali Ekber Cicek was born in Erzincan in 1938, he died in 2006. He was one of the foremost baglama players in Turkey, he sang mostly Alevi songs, which traditionally are religious/sufi songs about spiritual love & soul searching & love of God. This one is an original arrangement by Ali Ekber Cicek, to the poetry of Âşık Sıtkı Baba, a bard who lived in Anatolia from 1865 to 1928. In a documentary Ali Ekber Cicek said he worked on this piece for 3 years, and it’s considered a pinnacle in symphonic Anatolian folk music.

The lyrics are symbolic / esoteric and Haydar is a nickname for Pir Sultan Abdal, the legendary Anatolian poet who lived in the 16th century.

There’s not a new day without a free download compilation/sampler/release on the internet anymore, increasingly becoming the tool of the trade. First label compilation by Portland’s Circle into Square is a 13 track sampler with electronic, indie, indietronic stuff and electronic hip-hop. Some better known artists like Boy in Static and Helios are mingled with less known artists. Overall, a good one, liked Helios’ Bohrenisms on Distance, and just realized I’ve never heard Japanese rap when I confronted it on mic.edu’s Surrogate Role Model. Free download.

Our dear friend Grup Ses sent us the new series he’s started called Ses Partisi 01 which is a series dedicated to contemporary alternative music from Turkey. Includes songs from him, Klaustro, Grangulez, Replikas, Hazavuzu, Ekin Fil of Proudpilot and even an older track by yours truly!.

İkinci kez hazırlamış olduğum beş parçalık seçkimde yine birbirinden farklı tarzlar bir arada olacak..

* İlk parçamız İsveç’li dark ambient, neoclassical tarzlarda müzik yapan Peter Bjärgö‘nin son çalışması olan A Wave Of Bitterness albümünden albümle aynı ismi taşıyan parça. Karanlık bir arka plan üzerine; biraz doğu ezgilerinin eklenmesiyle etnik bir havaya bürünmüş. Albüm de genel olarak başarılı..

* The Dead Sea Indie, shoegaze, post rock, drone gibi bir çok değişik müzik türüne göz kırpan yeni ve değişik bir grup. Seçtiğim parça The Devil Bends oldukça akıcı ilerliyor, dinleyiciyi sıkmıyor. Indie ve post rock’a daha yakın sakinleştiren ve rahatlatan hoş bir çalışma olmuş.

* Karanlık ve bunalımlı bir kış akşamında dinlenebilecek en iyi albümlerden biri olan P.D. Wilder‘ın F/M albümü drone, noise tarzına rahatlıkla dahil edebileceğimiz bir çalışma. Albüm 13 parçadan oluşuyor. Bazı parçaların süreleri oldukça kısa; fakat bir parça 28:55 süresiyle albümün en uzun parçası. Benim bu albümden seçmiş olduğum çalışma ise: 06:56 süreye sahip Bismark. Drone severlerin beğeneceğini umuyorum.

* Voice Of The Seven Thunders 70′lerin experimental, psychedelic rock gruplarına benzer bir grup. Gitar kullanımı ve müziğin ilerleyişi 70′leri anımsatıyor. Dinleyince farkedeceksiniz; ben grubu dinlerken biraz Erkin Koray havası sezinledim. Denenmesi gereken bir grup olduğunu söylemek isterim. Albüm için.

* Talvihorros Electro-acoustic, ambient, drone dinleyicilerinin oldukça hoşuna gidecek bir grup. Labradford, Jasper TX, Tim Hecker severlerin beğeneceği albümden açılış parçası: Handwriting (Part I) burada.

A stream of brilliant naturalist instrumental psych jams from Denver’s Woodsman are up for grabs. Titled Indoor Days, this 6 track EP is a teaser for their upcoming album Collages on Mexican Summer. Although there are hints of post-rock here, the remarkable thing here is there’s not a bit of the overt sentimentalism of post-rock that I’ve grown to hate : i.e huge buildups, melodies & that overused electronic ambience. Instead there’s a stream of absorbing psych guitar sound + sparse percussion, well done!

This weekend we’ll be hosting Phillip Lauer & CB Funk collectively known with their African persona Arto Mwambe. Last year’s Resident Advisor set was amazing, tune in if you haven’t caught it already back then, and if you’re around Istanbul, make sure you drop by minimuzikhol, tonight or tomorrow.
