RIP James Graham Ballard
Here’s a musical selection in his honour and a few obits and stuff, the music is supposedly Ballardian which is an adjective coined in his honour meaning “dystopian modernity, bleak man-made landscapes and the psychological effects of technological, social or environmental developments”. Expect the music to be quite dystopic and dark. R.I.P Ballard the godfather of dystopia and cyberpunk.
Y.O.Y Edits
One of Loud-E’s re-edits on Ambassador’s Reception I instantly fell in love was Y.O.Y. Here’s that one with another perfect disco edit from him. Two more tracks, Italians do it Better boss Mike Simonetti’s Jackson 5 edit he posted on Alainfinkielkrautrock and indie disco sensation Woolfy vs Projections‘ Neeve I munched off discodust to cap this day.
Archaic Horizon netlabel
Archaic Horizon mostly spans the beatless side of electronica: ambient soundscapes, analogue melodic electronica and drones. Despite not knowing any of the roster apart from Celer whose Cursory Asperses on Slow Flow got rave reviews, and Milieu who released A Warm Wooden Hollow to equal praises on Infraction all of the artists I’ve checked are quite good.
Mid March Mini Dubby
Here’s a note from my partner in crime Can Ayverdi : “I don’t know how these ended up in our vaults, but they’ll surely satisfy any of you dubby melodic minimal leechers out there… enjoy responsibly, and don’t turn to the darkside.”
Five Star Monday 6
A five song compilation made from 5 star material from my itunes.
+ The Alps a side project of Tarantel’s Jefre Cantu-Ledesma
+ French Zeuhl/Prog band Eskaton
+ Bibio and Reigns from UK
+ Finnish psychfolk from avant guitarist Keijo Virtanen.
Collapsitarians
The idea of progress has been slowly dying. No one wants to live in the future. No finds the Future attractive any longer. The only thing left to believe in is collapse. That’s not boring! The end of civilization would be terribly exciting, and unlike any future we could imagine, probably more likely. We all are collapsitarians these days.
Desert Boots
In anticipation of any/all music lovers that might make their way via cosmicdisco, we quickly selected a few pieces that will hopefully intrigue the the cosmic connoisseurs in pleasant ways. Escape from New York, Nick Ayoub & DJ Mitsu’s remix of Cro-Magnon.
Drones on the High Seas
The electronic soundscape / noise / ambient / drone scene is burgeouning with great releases these days whether they be CDs or CDRs and casettes on small labels. Prepare to get terrorised by Teeth of the Sea, I am Seamonster, Mountains, Lawrence English and Meczup.
