Best of Bastard Jazz 2013 - Mixed by DJ DRM & Erik The Red
2013 was a big musical year for Bastard Jazz so Erik and I decided to whip up a little mix one snowy evening in Brooklyn. Fueled by some high class Reposado Tequila that E brought back from Mexico City, and some low class Bourbon that I bought across the street, we picked our favorite cuts that we released this year, plus a brand new Captain Planet instrumental from his forthcoming album and an unreleased Lord Echo dub. We also threw in a few of the BSTRD Boots vinyls in the mix for good measure .
With Light And With Love”, the single from their forthcoming album with the same name, is nine minutes of shamanistic bliss, allowing listeners to really settle into the groove that comes with its understated Wurlitzer melodies and frequent breakdowns and buildups. Impose Magazine

Next month, prepared-piano maestro Hauschka will release his first album since last year’sSilfra, with Hilary Hahn, and his first solo album since 2011’s Salon Des Amateurs. TitledAbandoned City, it’s a concept album of sorts, with the majority of its tracks named after places like Elizabeth Bay, a Namibian former mining town, and Stromness, a former whaling station on South Georgia Island, in the South Atlantic, from which Ernest Shackleton launched a 1916 rescue mission to save his stranded crewmen in Antarctica.
