This week’s surpriser flew into our inbox from the duo Berry Weight. Music for Imaginary Movies is their debut on their own label Hypnophonic Records, and it’s apt in describing the music involved. Eleven full-fledged electronic downtempo songs with quality musicianship from Berry Weight, plus singers Astrid Engberg, clarinetist Kledsy Jy, and MCs Green-T & FP from ASM. It’s a solid album yet, the neoclassicist approach and the consonance gives the music an artificiality, not enough grit and tension/release perhaps? Frankly I would have preferred less polish and more dirt, as in real life, but it’s me. 3/5
