No matter how hard you dig the 70’s continue to remain a gold mine. I got informed about the 70’s soul folk reggae hybrid ensemble Ozo, thanks to a 12” reissue of Anambra, their one off disco smash. Anambra is an amazing hypnotic disco track that charms everybody with the sluggish beat that coalesces onto the mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum“. Spiritual, maybe. Sexy, most definitely. The rest of “Listen to the Buddha” has no resemblance to Anambra. It’s actually quite like Cymande’s eponymous classic that defies generalization, but there’s mostly singalong soulful vocals and reggae beats. Dig the vinyl and jump on it wherever you find it. 4.5/5

…must-own multiracial hippie idealist throbbing pulsing droning deeply-spiritual heartwarming melancholy plaintive primitive pounding sad determined spiritual longing symphonic soaring spacial muscular maddeningly-rare well-produced loudly-mastered at 45 rpms sure hope I dont have to sell mine it took so long to find ultimate desert-island monsterpiece must-own… Downtown music @ discogs

PS: It occured to our friend plasticsoul, that Kites is a cover of Simon Dupree & The Big Sound. He’s put up an mp3 of the song @ friendfeed, check it out.
