Noted house music producer/DJ Shur-I-Kan has a positive vibed beats album out on Ballpark Records. UK native producer is better known with his productions ranging from the jazzy deep end of house music to broken beat, with two full-lengths under Jimpsters’ Freerange Records and many 12″s on NRK, Urban Torque, Slip & Slide, Om Records, and remixes for bigwigs like Motorcitysoul, Miguel Migs, Milton Jackson and Fred Everything.

His third full-length “The Humble Bees Project” is a hip-hop/beats side project. Apparently he’s produced an album for UK rapper Hkb Finn (who MCs on a few of the songs alongside Ty) last year, but it’s still a pleasant surprise to hear him change styles with success. It is very much in tune with classic jazzy hip-hop a la Guru or last weeks Jazz Liberatorz. So if you like your beats jazzy, go for it. It’s a solid album with a few good headnodders, it’s not trying to redefine hip-hop like the nuschool LA people, but it’s standing against further degeneration by keeping the tradition alive 3.5/5

Will wrap this hip-hop frenzy tomorrow with one post featuring songs from Waxolutionists and Shafiq Hussein and then we’ll move to greener pastures.
