Althought I like quite a few things off British culture, Brit pop is not one of my forte; so when Brakes’ third album Touchdown fell on my lap, I had no previous idea about Brakes’ past glories and their first two albums on Rough Trade.
Here’s a quick recap for folks like me, band members have previously played in Electric Soft Parade, British Sea Power and The Pipettes. They’ve shared the stage with Belle & Sebastian, Editors and The Killers, and their debut album in 2005 was voted the best album by Rough Trade shoppers. Touchdown, their third, is on Brighton’s Fat Cat Records and it fulfills the only prerequisite of having a successful Britpop album, having good songs.
