One of the emergent trends for contemporary music this year, – if we can get a glimpse while actually living inside it- is the apparent comeback of shoegazing aesthetic in indie music circles. Although it might simply be that I’m more conditioned or better equipped to identify it in different genres, since shoegaze is not limited to its alt.rock context these days, and it’s blended with different elements.

One such artist is Paneye from Sydney whose self released and freely downloadable Wilt and Loom has quite a bit of lo-fi pop, psychedelia and gloomy electronic soundscapes. He has described himself as “Peter Steele with his balls cut off, A much less talented Tom Fec, Alexander Tucker with a drum machine & synths.. maybe”>, I don’t really know who these people are but this album deserves more than 75 listens on last.fm, and did I say free download?

Second guest is Vadadi from Stockholm, it’s more conventional and radioready, almost like a Swedish Asobi Seksu, melodic hi-nrg emo rock with shoegaze guitars & synths. It’s released in digital only and I’ll use this space to plug bandcamp, the lovely new music market we have. It’s the cleanest and most honest music outlet we’ve seen recently. Hopefully it will catch on, for a startet, you can get Vadadi’s self titled album for free.

Free download Paneye’s Wilt and Loom.
Free download Vadadi’s self titled from bandcamp.
