Baikonour

Getting its name from the Khazak city of Baikonur which hosts a shuttle launching station is a giveaway for the spacy vibes of Brighton based Jean-Emmanuel Krieger. His second LP on Melodic Records, Your Ear Knows Future is a culmination of different styles such as the distorted shoegazing guitars, spacy FX and electronic bleeps.

Comparisons to Air and Trans Am are valid but with an important difference that Baikonour is not a bandwork but mostly the work of Krieger with Fujiya & Miyagi drummer Lee Adams giving a helping hand. Rolling basslines and the motorik beat of Neu! also give it a krautrocky edge and for everyone familiar with Melodic’s style of electronics (Working for a Nuclear Free City, Minotaur Shock) will expect that Your Ear Knows Future will have the electronic coating they are highly skilled to craft. A solid release that won’t shake the ground you stand on by experimentation but sugar coats it well so that the average listener can enjoy while retaining some adventure for the more experienced listener. 3.5/5

Buy CD from Boomkat for half the price while stocks last or download MP3s from Melodic.
