It’s not easy for people to come to grips with not making any profit from ideas & art. Capitalist ociety has trained people to make one good hit and earn millions, it’s ethically OK to sell photos of your newborn and still be a respectable person of the society or score a rap hit on MTV and live in a 25M mansion.
That’s why after years of netlabel releases and thousands of hours of free music, it’s still incomprehensible for most of the society that artists are giving away music. Why would anyone sane be doing that? The only sound explanation must be that their music is inferior to professionally recorded and profitable music.
Perhaps it is also contempt for the ethical system that makes Downtempo & IDM artist Carl Martin aka Transient release all of his music for free for the last decade. He’s released close to 50 releases on top netlabels such as Kikapu, Ogredung, Noisy Vagabond, Monotonik, Miasmah, One you name it. Just listen to his new EP “A Sudden Soft Implosion of Noiselessness” on Dusted Wax Kingdom.
His own breed of trip-hop, 90’s electronica, IDM and sample music is a safe haven among overproduced, overcompressed crap that passes as electronica these days. A must get for fans of Boards of Canada & Broadcast. Here’s his whole back catalogue if you like his music donate and you can also meet him on last.fm.
