Anapop vol 2: Osman Işmen Orkestrası

Well, the second Anatolian Pop Night in Istanbul is about to take place on Wednesday. The debut concert with Derdiyoklar was extremely well received and I hope/think it will be no less for Osman İşmen and his Orchestra. He’s an acclaimed composer of old Turkish movie soundtracks and has also been an arranger for better known personalities like Zeki Müren, Bülent Ersoy, Nükhet Duru, Sezen Aksu, Nilüfer and even İbrahim Tatlıses. In the late 70’s he’s composed 4 albums of discofied Turkish songs and later on drifted into more jazzy ways with his “Eastern Jazz” albums. If you wanna tune into the Anatolian Pop revivalism, make sure you wear your fez and catch him at Babylon.

Osman Ismen Orkestrasi – Disko Madimak

  • Hi!
When you are interested in good turkish music you must have a look at the documantary "Crossing the Bridge - The sound of Istanbul" from 2005 by Fatih Akin and Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten).

Very good groups in it from HipHop to Jazz and Underground with interesting informations. I ordered the DVD last week after seeing it in TV.

    Keep up the good postings!

Now I must go to the concert in Mulhouse (France) by the amazing JazzCoreTrio ZU, supported by Death Sentence : Panda! YEAH!

    Greetings from the cold Germany,
    Holger
  • Holger that documentary by Fatih Akin has been very successful in creating interest in Turkish music, it's cool, Osman Ismen is an even more underground veteran will be interesting! Cheers and enjoy that Zu concert! you're gonna shoot any videos?
  • I don´t filmed any concerts in my lifetime till now. It is better to enjoy the concert for 100% and move the body. No interests to concentrate to the camera. Sorry!

The gig was great. More Core than Jazz this time. A really loud and fast badass show.

    Cheers
  • ah, i thought some movies you shared on youtube were yours. i tried to shoot @ a few concerts and stopped as well. it's not cool to watch the concert from a visor trying not to shake the camera.
