Soul sister Stacy Epps just grabbed attention thanks to Gilles Peterson’s evercool selection on Brownswood Bubblers. Her soulful vocals on Floatin’ are a big highlight of this wonderful compilation. She was one of the vocalists who took part in Clin D’oeil, the Jazz Liberatorz joint which unfortunately went relatively unnoticed although being a solid effort. Once again Epps’ track is a lovely rhodes laden, guitar jam, with floatin vocals. The last track by The Shape of Broad Minds test her MCing skills as well, I prefer her singing, but she’s quite capable of delivering the rhymes as well. She has previously worked with Madlib & MF DOOM, OH NO, Wildchild and J Rawls among others.
