Berlin based folktronica guitar duo Taunus was formed by the Berliner steel string guitarists Jan Thoben and Jochen Briesen in early 2001. Their sophomore album “Harriet” on Ahornfelder, features a cast of guest musicians playing clarinet, harmonium and vibes including F.S. Blumm on guitars. Their melancholic and fragile folk based on acoustic steel guitars and basic singer-songwriter business makes their way through 1000s of folk artists, by way of solid songwriting and open minded experimentations with electronics, field records and improvisations. You might find “Harriet” — named after Darwin’s late turtle which died in 2006 — a little bit short with 8 songs and about 30 minutes, but it adds a certain flavour to the aftertaste of the record. Recommended for folks who enjoy artists like Kama Aina, Tenniscoats, Tunng, Silje Nes etc.
