Now that the winter seems to retreat and a faux air of spring has already arrived in Istanbul, it’s becoming hard to play anything other than spring music in the radioshows. I’m pretty sure though, the weather’s still messed up all around the world, so there’s a whole bunch of you who’ll love this odd mix of short soundclips and textures & nervous electronic pieces. I was going to add more but decided to write more indepth reviews for Bohren & Der Club of Gore and Phalangius, soon!.
Baader Brains is an hardcore band although their album has a few of these short soundclips which sound like Cassetteboy, the proper tracks are pretty good as well though I’d have preferred an album of these short interludes. Little Dragon is a Swedish band which I first heard thanks to aurgasm. Their self titled album is a great sport if you are into mellow Scandinavian alternapop with deep jazzy influences. The notorious Autistici was famed for his shifting IDM beats but his new one “Volume Objects” on 12K has more ambient drones and micro texturing much more suitable to the general aesthetic of Taylor Deupree’s 12K.
Was never a big fan of UK techno guru Neil Landstrumm when I read somewhere that his Restaurant of Assassins album was pretty dope. For some reason the name was also strangely tempting so I got to check it out. It seems his raw & dissonant freak techno sound was what dubstep needed to make it a little bit more interesting (and distressed at the same time). Next up is an odd Wobbly track from 2001’s Regards and the last one is a bizarre & obsessive Tuxedomoon piece from 1979’s Scream with a view.
Baader Brains - Fanfare for the young tigers
Little Dragon - Scribbled Paper
Autistici - 9V Tree Battery
Neil Landstrumm - Lung Dub feat. Si Begg
Baader Brains - Bailing at the Gates
Wobbly - Isle of Langerhans
Tuxedomoon - (Special Treatment for the) Family Man
