Square Root of Margaret
After a few days of drought, we’re back with a new post that I’ve been delayin for some time. I’ve played a few tracks from the the band on undomondo shows before. (speaking of which, we’re still doing our weekly show, but I don’t have the time to update them on the internet, such a shame) One of Toronto’s finest indie/electro pop troupes the surreally titled Square Root of Margaret, is a downward kooky band as easily understood by their titles, lyrics & melodies. Banging the alarms in the “catchy” department of my brain, I got hooked on Teragram Photeur (God only knows what the kids are smoking these days!) easily.
Their new effort on has 13 new songs about time and space, perception, and perspective! and it’s released on their 33 1/3 RPM label which is in reality a faux label only releasing their own stuff. With all the wacky pseudonyms and titles, like “Revisit The Cosmos (with yr host, Gelatinous Space Mendoza!)” they seem to be this decades Aquabats minus the ska. Tasty leftfield bubblegum pop with guitars and synths, you’ll probably like it if you’re still into 90’s MTV punk stuff like Vandals or indiepop stuff like Danielson.
