Kerkko Koskinen - Agatha

Sorry for the lack of updates folks, I’m neck deep in RL musical business, as I’ve become the musical director of an Istanbul lounge. More details to follow in the coming days. Here’s a Finnish artist recommended to me by a Finnish friend, Mr. Kerrko Koskinen composer and arranger. His new album Agatha has been released in August on Ricky Tick Records also home for Jukka Eskola, and it’s a beast of an album!.
A fusion of big band jazz with impressionist orchestral music, very cinematique, suitable to retro spy movies. The album is inspired by Agatha Christie, and I would have immediately selected the opener “Crooked Room” as the theme of my new crime/adventure/detective/spy movie had I been shooting one. I should also mention the UMO Jazz Orchestra and its star, Finnish trumpet player Verneri Pohjola, whose work is top notch and his solo bit on “Crooked Room” involves even some gypsy scales (or so I’ve heard!).
Extremely progressive jazz in classical orchestra forms, persistent listeners would find immense joy in delving into “Agatha”. Recommended to fans of acts like Aksak Maboul, Volapük, VSPRS Orchestra etc. Much deeper analysis of his music on his myspace.
A teaser for the upcoming documentary by Arto Tuohimaa on the making of AGATHA by Kerkko Koskinen & UMO Jazz Orchestra & Verneri Pohjola
