We’ve been slacking in the submissions department this few months, there has been mucho good music sent to us for review but I couldn’t keep up. Anyways today’s the day for the goods to be split! Arrrr!
Ponce, Puerto Rico’s Mofongo was said to be inspired by Salsa, Tom Zé, Fela Kuti, Varese and Dub, after hookup with Keith Fullerton Whitman aka Hrvatski at the New England Conservatory in Boston. He took up electronic music as his music making method. Aagoo records has pressed his debut EP “Tumbao” which has beats and textures made out of glitches and field sounds.
Josh Mease – Days Like This
Brooklyn artist Josh Mease has recently released his self titled album which he kindly sent me, I haven’t been able to listen to it through and through but one song he has up for grabs is really sweet, he calls it “front porch summer swing sing-a-longs”.
Planned to be out in late October on Illegal Art, Realistic is a plunderphonics project in the vein of our favourites Cassetteboy although not as funny as their UK counterparts. Taking bits and pieces from different music genres and mixing them in a lo-fi and anti-art manner, Canada’s Realistic is a helluva cool if you’re into Wobbly or culturejamming heroes Negativland. More Realistic stuff on Last.FM
Realistic – Music for Voyeurs
Finally a delicacy from our Swiss reader Calobbes, a free jazz compilation, lovingly shared with us. Megaupload, including artists like Ken Vandermark, Gold Sparkle Band, Otomo Yoshihide, Zu, Mount Everest Trio and more!
It for now, I’ll be publishing parts 2/3 soon!
